Mr. Hobby Aqueous Hobby Color — Flat Red
Achieve a bold, vibrant, and completely glare-free finish with Mr. Hobby Aqueous Flat Red. Red can traditionally be a challenging pigment to work with, but this premium acrylic is engineered to deliver rich, solid coverage without losing its striking intensity. Part of the world-class Aqueous Hobby Color line, it combines excellent opacity and a dead-flat finish with the safety and ease of a water-based formula.
Key Features:
-
Vibrant, Matte Red Pigment: Specially formulated to dry to a beautiful, uniform matt finish with absolutely zero unwanted sheen, making it perfect for fabric textures, military markings, or weathered surfaces.
-
Safe and User-Friendly: The water-based acrylic resin formula is low-odor and comfortable to use indoors. It is the ideal choice for hobbyists painting in home environments or those who prefer working without the harsh smells of solvent-based paints.
-
Superior Self-Leveling: Formulated to settle evenly across the surface, this paint minimizes brush marks and ensures a clean, uniform finish, resulting in a sleek, factory-quality coat.
-
Durable and Versatile: Once fully cured, the flat surface is resilient and provides a fantastic, stable base for detail painting, pin-washing, or weathering.
Application Guide:
-
Hand Brushing: Stir thoroughly before use with a paint stirrer to ensure the flatting agents and rich red pigments are fully mixed. Apply in thin, consistent layers. If the paint feels too thick, a small amount of Aqueous Thinner will improve flow.
-
Airbrushing: Thin at a ratio of roughly 1:1 to 1:1.5 (Paint to Thinner). Using Aqueous Thinner is highly recommended to achieve the smoothest atomization and prevent dry-spraying.
Pro-Tips for a Perfect Flat Red Finish:
The Power of the Undercoat: Red pigments are naturally semi-translucent. For the absolute brightest, most vibrant flat red, apply this paint over a cured coat of Flat White or a high-quality light primer.
Creating Warm Shadows: If you want to shade your red sections, try pre-shading the recesses with a dark brown or a deep burgundy rather than pure black, which can sometimes make red look muddy.
Cleanup: Clean your tools with water or specialized acrylic cleaner immediately after use. For dried paint in your airbrush, a dedicated hobby tool cleaner is recommended.
